JLR sure to grow volume and market share in 2018: SuriMumbai, Jul 11 (PTI) Jaguar Land Rover India, whichhas clocked a 66 per cent volume growth in theJanuary-June period, is hopeful of maintaining the momentumthrough the rest of the year and expects to “close 2018 with arobust double-digit growth that will be much above theindustry average.”Buoyed by a strong product portfolio, in the firsthalf of 2018, the Tata Motors subsidiary sold 2,579 units, up66 per cent over the same six-month period in 2017. In theentire 2017, its volume stood at 3,954 units, up 49 per centover 2016.This had helped the British brand cross its owntargets both in volume as well as in marketshare terms, whichcrossed 11 per cent in 2017 against a target of 10 per cent.”The brand JLR is becoming popular by the day. We aresure to more or less continue (the 66 per cent volume growth)momentum of the first half into the rest of the year. We aresure of clocking robust double-digit growth, which will bemuch above the industry growth rate,” Rohit Suri, presidentand managing director of JLR India, told PTI.He attributed the good H1 show to “the good run thatthe Discovery Sport and the Evoque from the Land Rover stableand the XE and XF from the Jaguar platform.”On the other hand, the market leader Mercedes-Benzgrossed 8,061 units, up 12.4 per cent over the six-monthsperiod in 2017, and the No 2 player BMW sold 5,171 units inthe same period, clipping at around 14 per cent. We closed2017 with 11 per cent of the market pie, but refused toproffer a number for the same in 2018.”As an industry the luxury car segment should gross at41,000 to 42,000 units this year, he added.Asked about the pre-owned car business, Suri said, theApproved business, which is the brand name of its secondscar arm, is doing pretty well clocking around 20 per cent ofits new sales.Asked whether they are planning to increase engineproduction from the Pune facility, he said, “we continue tolook at more growth opportunities. But there is no immediateplans to massively scale up our operations here. At the sametime let me add that we do a lot of things in Pune and notjust assembly. One of them is engines.”On whether they will have small cars in the country, asegment thats growing at a much faster clip and which hashelped its larger rivals like Mercedes and BMW to cornervolumes, Suri said, “there is no immediate plan that isIndia-specific. We’ll continue to roll in our global productsto this market as we don’t look at any India-specific productin the short to medium-term.”Meanwhile, Suri said the company opened its 27thintegrated sales-cum-service outlet in Chennai today.The second outlet in the Southern metro is located onthe Chennai-Bengaluru highway and is one of the largest as itsspread over 2,800 meters.With this the company has 27 outlets in 25 cities andmay add two more this year, Suri added. HMD Global, the company that currently holds the license to brand Nokia, has officially entered the notch family of smartphones with the launch of Nokia X5 and Nokia X6. Both the phones are the company’s first phones to come with notched displays. And now it seems that the company is working on another notched phone dubbed Nokia X7.A new image claimed to be the front panel of Nokia X7, has surfaced online that reveals new details about the new Nokia phone. Spotted first by Nokiamob, on Baidu, the image hints at a large display and a thick notch. The display seems larger than the Nokia X5 and Nokia X6. The Nokia X5 and X6 sport a 5.8-inch display. The display size of the Nokia X7 is expected to larger than 6-inches. Design-wise, the Nokia X7 is expected to sport a similar design to the Nokia X6 only with a bigger display. The top notch bears two cuts- one for the sensor and the one for the earpiece. There is also a third spot allotted for the front camera in the notch.Nokia has confirmed that there will be no phones from the company at IFA Berlin 2018. So there are chances that the Nokia X7 may arrive by late 2018 or early 2019.Talking about the other rumoured specs of the phone, the Nokia X7 is rumoured to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor. Further, the Nokia X7 is expected to come in two variants based on the storage and ARM. The base model of the phone is expected to pack in 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage while the second variant may come with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is the global variant of Nokia X6 while the Nokia 5.1 Plus is the global variant of Nokia X5. Apart from being the first Nokia phones to come with notched displays, the other highlights of the phones are all glass bodies and Android One software. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is priced at Rs 15,999. The company has not revealed the price of Nokia 5.1Plus and will reveal once it goes on sale in September.
New Delhi: A total of 414 posts of judges are vacant in the 25 high courts of the country, the highest till now in this year. According to Law Ministry data, as on September 1, the high courts had 414 vacant positions as compared to the sanctioned strength of 1,079 judges. The figure was 409 in August and 403 in July, as per the data. A three-member Supreme Court collegium recommends names of candidates for appointment as high court judges. In case of appointments to the Supreme Court, the collegium consists of five top judges of the top court. The ministry, along with background check reports by the Intelligence Bureau, forwards it to the Supreme Court collegium for a final call. The government has maintained that appointment of judges in the high courts is a “continuous collaborative process” between the Executive and the Judiciary, as it requires consultation and approval from various Constitutional authorities. Vacancies keep arising on account of retirement, resignation or elevation of judges and increase in judges’ strength. In June this year, the vacancy position stood at 399, while it was 396 in May. In April, 399 posts of judges were vacant, while the figure was 394 in March. The vacancy position in February stood at 400 and in January, it was 392, according to the data collated by the Department of Justice. Over 43 lakh cases are pending in the 25 high courts.
