Press Association An FA statement confirmed: ” Hull City’s George Boyd will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after an FA charge for spitting was found proven.” The suspension rules Boyd out of the Tigers’ forthcoming Barclays Premier League games against West Brom, West Ham and Stoke. Television images appeared to show the Scotland international spit in the direction of Hart during the 68th-minute flashpoint, which came with Hull trailing 1-0 to a City side who had earlier been reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Vincent Kompany. Boyd, a second-half substitute, went down rather too eagerly under Hart’s challenge in the area but his appeals for a penalty were waved away by referee Lee Mason. Hart responded furiously and pushed his head against Boyd as the two exchanged insults. Hart was booked by Mason and as a result was subject to no further action, although Boyd later insisted that Hart was lucky to stay on the pitch, claiming: “He didn’t nut me but he’s put his head in, so he should have got sent off really.” The loss of Boyd ahead of three crucial fixtures will come as a blow to Tigers boss Steve Bruce, who launched an impassioned defence of his player after Saturday’s match, saying: “George Boyd would not do that, not a chance – not deliberately, anyway. He is as honest as they come.” Bruce must now have to do without a player that he frequently employs off the bench, with 19 of Boyd’s 25 league appearances this term coming as a substitute. Hull, who despite an impressive first season back in the Premier League are just five points above the relegation zone, are already without winger Robbie Brady and defenders Paul McShane and Joe Dudgeon as the business end of the season approaches. The incident with the England goalkeeper, which was not seen by the match officials but showed up on television replays, occurred in the second half of Saturday’s match at the KC Stadium, which the visitors won 2-0. Boyd had denied a misconduct charge brought by the FA on Tuesday and mounted an appeal, but that was thrown out at an independent regulatory commission hearing on Thursday. Hull forward George Boyd will serve a three-match suspension after the Football Association rejected his appeal against a charge of spitting at Manchester City’s Joe Hart.
Who knew that freedom of speech doesn’t extend to facial accessories?OK, so the Bill of Rights doesn’t guarantee one’s ability to provide shoutouts during college football games by writing messages on eye black — those small, dark strips you see your favorite players wearing just above their cheekbones. And as history has shown, if the NCAA can deprive collegiate athletics of fun, it will do so at the first opportunity. The NCAA Football Rules Committee proposed last week to ban college football players from putting any words, logos or symbols on their eye black, according to the Associated Press. It’s so long to hometowns, family members and mantras. The tributes were fun while they lasted. This applies to USC, of course, because our own Reggie Bush is credited with starting the movement. Once the running back scribbled the “619” area code on his eye black to represent San Diego, everyone wanted to make a statement.Rey Maualuga honored his late father in writing. Mark Sanchez could have filled a rolodex with the names he displayed after a season. Allen Bradford wrote “I promise” on his eye black to remind him of the guarantee he made to his father that he would make it to the NFL and provide a better life for the two of them.Only the NCAA could look at all of these examples and somehow be offended.Sure, eye black can also be a platform for controversial speech. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow used his face as a billboard for Bible verses this past season. And Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor wore eye black with a message supporting current quarterback and former convict Michael Vick, one of the sport’s most indefensible characters.Advocates of the rule have cited a fear of what this practice could turn into, but is anyone really expecting a player to come trotting on the field with a four letter word written on his face or, better yet, an advertisement for BulkBeefJerky.com?Former USC head coach Pete Carroll told the Los Angeles Times last September that he and the school’s equipment managers monitored the players’ messages and held the right to prevent any message from making it to the field. But apparently institutional control isn’t good enough for the NCAA.What’s really sad about the proposed rule is that it provides yet another avenue for the NCAA to sap players’ joy from the game of football. Carroll’s team was special because it beat other teams and had fun doing it.In the modern-day landscape of collegiate athletics, athletes have dwindling opportunities for self-expression. It’s easy to see why so many of them would embrace the chance to show appreciation or make a statement given how regimented their daily lives have became. Some will argue that writing on eye black is the latest development in the generation of me-first athletes. But is anyone really offended by a short statement that will largely go unseen except on television? Until Tebow came along, writing on eye black was usually personal. It’s really unfortunate that the NCAA sees fit to inject itself into the matter. If I weren’t graduating in May, I would protest by wearing eye black with my column name written on it whenever I went to the press box. But I guess I also don’t have the bone structure to pull off that look. And I encourage anyone to look back into the eye black archives if they believe the practice isn’t entertaining. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw Brian Cushing with “FEEL ME” plastered across his face. And the most memorable recollection I have of USC’s 69-0 drubbing of Washington State in 2008 in Pullman, Wash., is USC wide receiver Ronald Johnson using his eye black to support Barack Obama’s campaign. But somewhere at the NCAA headquaters in Indianapolis, there’s a group of curmudgeons who don’t see the humor. Maybe they’d lighten up if someone would just throw a shout-out their way via eye black every once in a while.Feel me?Apparently not.“Tackling Dummy” runs Thursdays. GLENDALE, Ariz. — Coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged after Sunday’s sixth straight loss that “a lot” of 49ers are being discussed around the league ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.Pierre Garçon is the only player Shanahan confirmed as being part of trade discussions and that he’s keeping the veteran wide receiver abreast of any developments. Garçon did not suit up for Sunday’s 18-15 loss to the Cardinals, Shanahan citing a knee injury that could be OK by Thursday when the 49ers host the …
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest The Animal Agriculture Alliance released a report detailing observations from the Animal Rights National Conference, held July 25 through July 28 in Alexandria, Va.The event was organized by the Farm Animal Rights Movement and sponsored by Mercy for Animals, The Save Movement, Compassion Over Killing and The Humane League, along with other animal rights extremist groups.“Animal rights extremists are becoming increasingly aggressive in their efforts to end animal agriculture,” said Kay Johnson Smith, Alliance president and CEO. “Releasing reports from major activist conferences enables everyone in animal agriculture to prepare for strategies and tactics targeting their livelihood.”Similar to last year’s conference, speakers made it clear their vision is animal liberation, not promoting animal welfare.“There is no such thing as humane slaughter and anyone who tells you differently is simply lying,” said Michael Budkie of Stop Animal Exploitation Now. Demetria Atkinson of Redefine Your Mind argued, “Animals are people too.” “We need to say that all animal agriculture is cruel and wrong,” said Karen Davis of United Poultry Concerns. A key theme of the conference was the desire to create a vegan world by 2026 to save the environment, but many activists had doubts.“Activism is so sad right now; when I look at our movement, I am incredibly disappointed,” said Lauren Ornelas of The Food Empowerment Project.“We vegans carry a heavy burden. No matter how hard we work, we will likely never see the end of it,” said Melanie Joy of Beyond Carnism.“We are not even close to being on the cusp of global veganism,” said Bruce Friedrich of The Good Food Institute.Attendees at the conference were encouraged to pressure restaurants and retailers and make it seem like a lot of people are asking for vegan meals by blitzing companies on social media, by mail and in-person. “Make sure you tag [brands] in the photo so that all they see is consumer demand for vegan [products],” said Laura Cascada of Compassion Over Killing. Cascada also urged conference attendees to write post cards so they could have “several hundred post cards to dump on the front step of [one restaurant chain] at some point.”In a workshop at the conference, The Humane League asked attendees to write birthday cards to the CEO of a major restaurant chain saying, “This will be the meanest card you’ll ever write.” While talking about corporate campaigns, Kelly Myer of The Humane League said, “We surround buildings so that employees have to see and feel guilt anytime they leave” and “An incremental approach is used to gradually switch companies over to veganism.”Speakers also focused on the use of “undercover” videos and the media to damage the reputation of animal agriculture and reach their goals. “Investigations are the single most powerful tool to expose the inherent cruelties in large-scale animal agriculture,” said William Rivas-Rivas of Animal Equality.“Make sure you start with something dramatic…That’s much more likely to go viral,” said Jane Velez-Mitchell of Jane UnChained News Network. Also speaking at the conference were: Erica Meier and Mike Wolf, Compassion Over Killing; Sean Thomas, Animal Equality; Jennifer Barkley, The Humane League; and Chris Berry and Daniel Waltz, Animal Legal Defense Fund. The 2019 Animal Rights National Conference Report, which includes personal accounts of speaker presentations and general observations, is available to Alliance members in theResource Library on the Alliance website. The Alliance also has reports from previous animal rights conferences accessible to members on its website at www.animalagalliance.org.
Were these audio tips helpful? What else do you want to know about Audition? Give us your feedback in the comments below. Check out the tutorial below where Maxim Jago from Lynda.com takes us through the step-by-step process of using the Spectral Frequency Display to clean up your audio. Activate your Waveform by double-clicking your audio source in the Files panel. With your Waveform selected, head over to either the Effects Rack or the Effects Top Menu. Then go to Noise Reduction/Restoration > Adaptive Noise Reduction. Now that you know how to access Frequency Analysis (as well as how to apply frequency holds), let’s turn to a full tutorial (once again from Mike Russell) on how to effectively use this feature for audio clean up. Access the Waveform of your audio by double-clicking on the track.Head over to Window > Amplitude Statistics.A new window will open. Click on the Scan option in the lower left-hand corner.Once it scans, find the section that says Possibly Clipped Samples.Click on the small Diamond Shaped Node next the number. This will take you to where your audio is clipping. For an in-depth look at how to use the technique above, check out the great tutorial below from Mike Russell. He’ll run through the Amplitude Statistics process, then show you how to fix distortion in two different ways. 5. Use Frequency AnalysisAnother way to locate noises in your audio is by using the Frequency Analysis option. By activating this window, you’ll be able to see the frequencies in your audio file, which then allows you to find where random issues of clipping, excessive bass, and other noises are located. Here’s how to access this menu option. 4. Remove EchoEcho is another issue that you may hear in your audio from time to time. It happens, especially when you’re filming at a location with a lot of reflective surfaces. Surfaces like concrete, tile, brick, and metal will reflect sound and bounce it all over the space, which in turn can give you some unwanted reverb.Unfortunately, Audition doesn’t include any really polished effects that can handle this issue. However, there are several plugins you can purchase that won’t break the bank. Two great plugins you can use: Acon Digital’s DeVerberate and the SPL De-Verb plugin from Plugin Alliance. In the tutorial below, Curtis Judd gives us an in-depth tutorial on how to utilize both of the above plugins to reduce and remove echo issues from your audio. Now, you should be completing your audio mix in something other than your NLE, but if it’s a quick video project and you have echo issues, know that you can use these plugins with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Open your audio Waveform by double-clicking it in the Files Panel. As the Waveform opens in the Editor Panel, look toward the bottom of the panel. There is a small divider. Click and Hold to pull that divider up, revealing the Spectral Frequency Display. Now you have a visual reference to find the noises you need to take out. Now that you know how to access the Adaptive Noise Reduction effect, let’s find out how to precisely use the effect to clean up audio. Here’s another video from Lynda.com that runs through the process. 3. Use Adaptive Noise ReductionAnother way to reduce unwanted noise from your audio is through the use of the Adaptive Noise Reduction effect. This effect works really well at removing ambient background noise and wind noise. This effect can be applied in real-time through the Multitrack Editor, which is really handy. Here’s how to get started using the Adaptive Noise Reduction effect. Go to the Window top menu, and click the Frequency Analysis tab.Choose Logarithmic from the Scale drop-down menu.Start your playback. To Freeze, click one of the eight Hold buttons. 2. Use the Spectral Frequency DisplayHave you ever been out on location filming and some secondary interference messed with your audio? Maybe someone on set sneezed or had their cell phone ring. Maybe an airplane flew overhead. Noises like these can be taken out of your audio with the Spectral Frequency Display. There are always going to be imperfections in your production audio. Instead of scrapping it, use these tips to clean it up in Adobe Audition. No matter how experienced your audio crew, there are always issues that will find their way into your recording. It happens. But resist the urge to scrap your audio and go straight to ADR, because you might be able to salvage that audio. There are several options you can utilize in order to save this audio, but one option that’s gaining steam within the industry is Adobe Audition. With that said, here are five tips for cleaning up your audio in Adobe Audition. For each tip, we’ll run through how you can fix the issue and then post a helpful professional tutorial to guide you step by step. Let’s get started.1. Fix Distorted AudioThere may be moments in post when you discover that your field recorder settings were simply too hot. This is a problem that frequently rears its ugly head in documentary film work, especially for those working as a one-person crew. When your audio is too hot, it’s going to distort — but fear not. It can be fixed.

Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp #MagneticMediaNews#MoodysShockedAtBahamasBudgetCommunication201718 Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppBahamas, June 7th 2017: Another credit downgrade from Moody’s could soon be ahead, as the International Credit Rating Agency is expressing alarming concern over the recent budget pronouncements with an increase in borrowing of $722M outlined. The agency says the latest budget has sparked alarm, with it forecasting debt-to-GDP will rise until 2019, peaking above 70 percent of GDP, when it had initially expected debt to stabilise this year.It also adds that it “indicates that The Bahamas’ fiscal outlook is significantly worse than what we had incorporated into our current projections”, as “Revised government estimates point to a higher deficit for fiscal 2017, and deficits (rather than surpluses) in the coming years.Last week, DPM and Finance Minister Peter Turnquest said with an ongoing Deficit of the magnitude projected for the upcoming year, the level of the Government Direct Charge is forecast to reach $6.8 billion at the end of 2017/18, or a new all-time high of 72.7 per cent of GDP Fiscal Policy beyond 2017/18.Despite this pronouncement, Moody’s commended The Bahamas government of maintaining realistic goals and targets in lowering the debt to GDP ratio by 2019.Moody’s report says, “The Budget envisions a somewhat optimistic deficit reduction path through fiscal 2020 without material changes to current policy, particularly in a still weak economic environment”.As to whether another down grading is imminent, the credit rating agency says its investment grade rating remains the same for the moment.DPM Turnquest has attributed the economic downfall to the bills government has incurred following Hurricane Matthew’s devastation last October.
