first_imgDD EXCLUSIVE: THE Danish company which made the turbines where one collapsed on Friday says it has shut down the remaining windmills as a precautionIn a statement to Donegal Daily, Vestas confirmed the turbine near Maas – between Ardara and Glenties – collapsed at 5pm last Friday in what it called ‘very high winds’.“At approximately 17.00 on Friday 21 March a V52-850KW at Loughderryduff wind farm in Donegal Ireland, collapsed in very high winds. No one was injured in the incident,” said the spokesman Matt Whitby. “Wind speeds at the time had been approximately 25 m/s or 56mph.“The other eight V52-850KW turbines at the wind power plant were shut down. Vestas’ technicians are present at the site and the situation is under control.“Vestas takes safety extremely seriously. A thorough investigation will be conducted together with an independent third party to establish the root cause of the incident. Until this has been conducted Vestas cannot speculate on the cause of the incident.”However local people are pointing out that the turbine which collapsed is just 50m above sea level on a flat plain in the townland of Loughderryduff. Proposed turbines for Glenties and Straboy are 30metres higher and on land 300m above sea level.Yesterday there was a constant stream of cars pulling over to look at the collapsed turbine.Since Donegal Daily broke news of the turbine’s collaspe on Saturday, the story has been retweeted and shared on Facebook around the world – the collapse of turbines is extremely unusual.Wreckage had been strewn over a wide area. The site is owned by North West Wind Limited. first_imgCllr John Campbell, right, switched sidesBREAKING NEWS: DONEGAL County Council has passed its budget.Cllr John Campbell, independent, switched his vote – and Fianna Fail councillor Rena Donaghey wasn’t in the chamber. That left the votes tied at 14 each. Mayor Ian McGarvey had the casting vote – he could vote twice – and that gave the budget the passing vote it needed.No-one has as yet explained where Cllr Donaghey was for the vote.Sinn Fein councillor Jack Murray described the dramatic twist in events as “absolutely ridiculous.”There have been some dramatic scenes all day in the council with rows over adjournments – and even whether the councillors should have tea. Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein had wanted the budget to go unpassed in protest at cutbacks.Fine Gael, Labour and independent councillors cheered the result. It was a dramatic late twist to a bizarre day in the council. BREAKING NEWS: COUNCIL PASSES BUDGET IN DRAMATIC TWIST was last modified: January 13th, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:councildonegalvotelast_img read more

SANTA CLARITA – Several nominees for an annual award recognizing production location departments are involved in shows shot in and around the city. The nominees in the 11th annual California On-Location Awards include the locations departments for the dramas “Deadwood” and “24.” Both are competing for Production Company of the Year in the television category. Paul Wilson of “CSI” is nominated for Location Manager of the Year. The Disney film “Herbie: Fully Loaded” received a nod in the features category, and the production firm MJZ was nominated for an anti-smoking public service announcement. Two city Department of Parks and Recreation employees – aquatics center administrator Pat Hagele and Dale Sargent, a parks administrator – also were nominated for awards recognizing professionalism. Crawford said the nominations help showcase the city as among the best locations for Hollywood production work. “It’s not necessarily any film production,” he said. “We’re getting very many professional and high-quality film shots. It shows that we’re a popular location and a respected location for quality films.” The Santa Clarita Film Office reported 80 film permits issued between July and September, the first quarter of the 2005-06 fiscal year. It’s a 23 percent increase from the 65 issued in the same period a year ago. Of the three television nominees, the HBO Western “Deadwood” is based at Melody Ranch Studios in Placerita Canyon. The rest are regular visitors to the Santa Clarita Valley. last_img read more
