SAN DIMAS — The San Dimas High School defense sacked Northview High quarterback Damian James on the final play of the game to preserve the win in the Valle Vista League opener for both schools. Following a voluntary safety by Saints punter Eric Samples, the Vikings got the ball back in San Dimas territory with just over a minute to play and a chance to win. James scrambled 23 yards down to the Saints 21-yard line, well within kicker Jeremy Hernandez’ range, but two false start penalties and the final sack gave the Saints the win. The Saints had only one pass completion in the game but it was a 15-yard touchdown pass from Samples to tight end Deryck Marquez midway through the fourth quarter. That gave San Dimas the lead, 35-32. center_img Ryan Richard carried 24 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns for the Saints. Richard was complemented by fellow running back Roy Curry, who added 75 yards on 12 carries. That included a second-quarter, 89-yard kickoff return that gave the Saints a 14-13 lead. James had 123 yards and three touchdowns on the ground for the Vikings. Will Davis carried 25 times for 175 yards and a 5-yard touchdown that gave the Vikings a 32-28 lead ending the third quarter. — Nate Hawkins last_img read more
