Wellington maybe a football town but there are plenty of us who are proud Wellington golf supporters. Keep up the great work! You can automatically qualify as one of the top two teams from each of the four regionals, or mark the lowest scores of the five individuals not on those teams.Overall, Wellington accumulated a 378, placing sixth as a team out of 10 teams present.Rose Hill won the tournament with a 314. Wichita Trinity edged out Andale for second by one stroke: 322 to 323. Other team scores included Augusta 326, Mulvane 370, Winfield 389, Circle 391, El Dorado 395, and Clearwater, who brought two golfers.Rose Hill’s Parker Austin, the son of PGA golfer Woody Austin, was the tournament’s top golfer with a 73 edging out Jordan Anderson of Andale who shot 74.The tournament was a bit of a Who’s Who event. Wichita State University head coach Gregg Marshall was in attendance as his son played for Trinity. Kellen Marshall shot an 82.As for Wellington, the very young golf team made up almost entirely of freshmen and sophomores, had a good day.Freshman Ty Wilson had a good day, shooting in single digits including a 44 on the front nine.Ty Wilson shot a 94. Carson LeGrand shot a 100 and Jonah Luna 101 to close out the team scoring. Other Wellington scorers included Aaron Schoemann with a 103 and Skyler Crittenden with a 107.“It was a good year and I look forward to our young men and the success we will have in the future,” said Wellington head golf coach James Ginter.As for DeJarnett, his state qualification came as a bit of a surprise after he was convinced he hadn’t made it right after playing.“I really didn’t play well at all,” DeJarnett said, after shooting 18 holes and before the tallies for the tournament were made. “My shoulder was really bothering me. I didn’t do well on my short game.”But DeJarnett was consistent, shooting a 41 on the front nine and 42 on the back. His best hole of the day was a birdie on Hole #3.Overall, the weather was nice if not a bit blustery especially in the morning.
