MULROY COLLEGE REACH FINALS OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS

first_imgGo Mulroy College!Transition year students from Mulroy College will be participating in the final of the Ecounesco Young Environmentalist Award in the Mansion House in Dublin on the 20th May. As part of the competition the students worked with the Rathmullan Coastal Group planting Marram grass along the Kinnegar beach in Rathmullan. The project began with a request from Fiona Kelly of Rathmullan Coastal Care group to get involved in coastal issues.A day was spent in September planting the marram grass supported by Olivia Crossan from An Taisce, Suzanne Bogan from Donegal County Council, Fiona Kelly and Patricia Mc Ateer from Rathmullan Coastal Care.The class were given information on biodiversity and the importance of marram grass planting on the wider scale.As part of the judging process, an online voting system is currently working until the 14th May. The teacher involved, Aisling Mc Ateer has asked that as many members of the public could log on to- www.ecounesco.ie, selecting Programmes – Young Environmentalist Award, Select – Biodiversity is the category, scroll down to find Mulroy College.
