With a brand new look and feel, the Eventbrite App Marketplace was reimagined to make it even easier for event creators to find and leverage 100+ trusted apps to help them save time, run events more efficiently, and, ultimately, sell more tickets.More specifically, beyond the fresh coat of paint, the interface has been re-designed to be easier for creators to discover apps, and the revamped documentation and guides help make it faster and easier for developers to build with us. The beauty of the Eventbrite App Marketplace is that all of the apps play seamlessly with Eventbrite’s platform, connecting with the simple click of a button. This means that creators have the power to extend and tailor the functionality of the Eventbrite platform to suit the specific needs of their business.Matt Whitlock from Northern Nights Music Festival comments: “Our festival has been around for seven years, and during that time we’ve made great use of the apps that integrate with Eventbrite. Apps like Mailchimp Sync, ToneDen, and Social Ladder’s Ambassador Program are highly valuable tools that help us both broaden the reach of Northern Nights Music Festival with attendees, and throw a successful event from start to finish.”Marketing Technology News: OpenText Invests and Drives Growth in Asia Pacific RegionTo unearth and deliver the best solutions we work closely with our diverse community of partners, developers, and creators to build a more adaptable and powerful global ticketing and event technology platform. Creators can also easily add event content to any email template with a simple drag-and-drop tool and can seamlessly transfer contacts from Eventbrite to Constant Contact.Gift Up!: Gift Up! is a simple way for creators to sell gift cards on their own website for events listed on Eventbrite. With this integration, the Gift Up! app automatically tracks and syncs the sold gift cards as discount coupons in a creator’s Eventbrite account and the result is an easy gift card purchase process for the gift-giver, and a simple experience for the receiver.Lennd: Lennd is an event management platform for festival creators that manages credentials and ticket requests for vendors, sponsors, artists, media, and staff. With this integration, creators can quickly spin up forms to facilitate requests and approvals for event access and sync the collected data into Eventbrite.Prism: Prism is committed to simplifying the complex process of booking live music and comedy shows, managing rooms, and routing tours with one source of truth so event creators can be more efficient and successful. Reviewed by James Ives, M.Psych. (Editor)Feb 6 2019A new Pharmacoepidemiology & Drug Safety study estimates the prevalence and risk factors for self-reported misuse of prescribed opioids in the general adult population.Based on data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the study’s investigators estimate that of more than 89 million US adults who used prescription opioids every year, close to 3.9 million (4.4 percent) reported misusing the prescribed medications. Prescribed opioid misuse was most strongly associated with co-occurring misuse of opioids without a prescription, misuse of benzodiazepines, other drug use disorders, history of illegal activity, and psychological distress.”While most people who are prescribed opioid medications use them as prescribed, a minority tend to use a higher dose, use the medication more frequently, or for a longer time than prescribed,” said lead author Dr. Ramin Mojtabai, of Johns Hopkins University. “Prescribers should be especially vigilant about the possibility of misuse among patients who are prescribed more potent opioid medications and prescribed these medications for long-term use.”Source: https://newsroom.wiley.com/press-release/pharmacoepidemiology-and-drug-safety/study-estimates-misuse-prescribed-opioids-united-
Lunch of diversity: Getting seated by lotteryDiversity enriches our lives, both privately and at work. Experience has shown that difficult and new questions, such as frequently encountered in the technical and research field, can be solved more quickly by teams with a diverse background of experience than by homogeneous teams. In the company’s projects, teams and departments work closely together, but what about the people outside the project environment?Related StoriesKNAUER introduces new Sepapure FPLC columns and media for protein purification tasksHigh Quality Purification of Proteins Through Liquid ChromatographyKNAUER joins UN Global Compact initiative for responsible corporate governanceIn a company with 140 employees, everyone knows everyone – one might think. In practice, however, there are colleagues who know each other little more than by sight. That’s why this diversity event at KNAUER was intended to be an occasion to expand the familiar circles. The company had come up with a lunch to get to know each other. The colleagues enjoyed a delicious international menu at a common table. The special thing about it was that the seating arrangement was determined by each employee pulling the name of the next person sitting next to him out of a lottery drum and that person the name of the next person until all colleagues had taken their seats at the table. The random distribution seating worked perfectly: developer sat next to marketing colleague, saleswoman next to laboratory assistant. The food obviously tasted very good and fears that it might be very silent and stiff were not confirmed. On the contrary, the mood was very relaxed. KNAUER, with employees from 20 countries, sees itself as a tolerant and open company. The company joined the business initiative “Diversity Charter” in May 2017, which aims, among other things, to create a work environment that is free of prejudice but also outward-looking and recognizing the diversity of the society for mutual benefit. I am delighted that our getting-to-know-lunch has been so well received by the employees and that people who otherwise have little to do with each other have actually got to know each other better. I hope that the campaign will have a little after-effect and that the colleagues’ circles will form a little more randomly during the normal lunch break.”Katharina Pohl, Human Resources Officer May 30 2019On May 28, 2019 the “German Diversity Day” took place for the seventh time and on this occasion the Berlin-based laboratory instrument manufacturer KNAUER organized a special campaign for the employees. ‘Audi gang’Germany’s geographical position at the centre of Europe and its dense web of motorways, much of which is not covered by a speed limit, means that criminals can more easily shake off police than elsewhere—driving German-made sports cars, naturally. One particularly notorious group has plagued the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which shares a border with the Netherlands and where the largest number of bank raids are carried out. The press dubbed the group the “Audi gang” because their getaway car of choice tended to be rented or stolen vehicles of that particular high-end brand. Three members of the gang were hauled before a court in state capital Duesseldorf in June, accused of stealing more than 600,000 euros and causing 100,000 euros of damage in 2017-18.Last year, a total of 128 suspects were arrested over cash machine robberies, most of them from the Netherlands, the BKA said. Some 369 ATMs in Germany were blown up by criminal gangs last year, a 38-percent increase over 2017 Explore further Fighting backWhile cash machine attacks have mounted in Germany, the number reported in the other 10 nations studied by EAST, including France and Britain, fell 15 percent to just under 700 altogether.Such data highlight how banks can work together with government support to reduce the incentives to blast open ATMs.In the Netherlands, lenders created the “Geldmaat” network, agreeing to hold less cash in each machine but refill them more regularly in order to reduce the potential payoff for any one raid.France ordered banks in 2015 to fit ATMs with systems that stain banknotes if they are forcibly removed.Europol credits the move with sharply reducing the number of attacks in France, which fell from 304 in 2013 to just 58 in 2018, according to National Gendarmerie figures.Even in Germany, criminals fail to secure any banknotes in 60 percent of cases thanks to well-protected machines, the BKA said. But successful attacks can be highly lucrative. On average, 130,000 euros are stolen in each German crime, compared with just 17,100 euros across the 11 countries surveyed by EAST. Even so, Germany accounts for more than one-third of the attacks recorded across 11 large European countries surveyed by the European Association for Secure Transactions (EAST).The nation’s 58,000 machines make up just 16 percent of the installed base across all the countries in the study. Germany accounts for more than one-third of the attacks across 11 European countries Some 369 ATMs were destroyed by explosions last year, a 38-percent increase compared with 2017 and 10 times more than a decade ago, according to data from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).Most of the crimes follow the same pattern, with perpetrators using an electric detonator or fuse to set off a mixture of gases pumped into the machine—or more rarely a solid explosive.Carried out late at night, perpetrators often plan the attacks “months in advance”, according to Europol. The crimes can be risky, with one man killed in October 2018 while attempting a similar attack on a ticket machine at a local train station in Halle, southwest of Berlin. But successful attacks on ATMs are highly lucrative. In May, raiders who blasted open a Commerzbank cash machine in Eschborn, near Frankfurt, made off with 190,000 euros ($215,000).The police managed to grab one suspect who returned to the scene of the crime in the small hours, but his accomplices and the cash have disappeared without trace, Frankfurt prosecutor Christian Hartwig said. Many cash machine crackers come “from the Netherlands and central Europe” to Germany simply because of its favourable geography, he added. “Search for black Audi after attempt to blow up a cash machine”, “Neighbours hear loud bang, perpetrators flee in Audi”, “Car chase through three federal states”: headlines like these have become commonplace around Germany as raids on cash machines have increased in number. © 2019 AFP While cash machine blow-ups have mounted in Germany, the number reported in other countries has fallen Citation: Germany is EU’s Eldorado for cash machine raiders (2019, July 3) retrieved 17 July 2019 from https://phys.org/news/2019-07-germany-eu-eldorado-cash-machine.html
If it weren’t for the legendary World War II code-breaker Alan Turing, the outcome for the Allied forces might have looked very different. The mathematician and computer scientist has been widely credited with hastening the end of the war, thanks to his work decoding German naval messages. But only seven years after the end the war, Turing, who was gay, was convicted of “gross indecency” for his relationship with a 19-year-old man. Turing wasn’t formally pardoned until 2014. Now, 65 years after Turing’s death, the Bank of England is recognizing the trailblazer’s contributions to science and technology by featuring his face on the brand-new design of their 50-pound note. “It was nothing short of a tragedy how a country he had served with such distinction treated him after the war, persecuting him for his homosexuality,” said Demis Hassabis, a British artificial intelligence (AI) researcher, at the unveiling ceremony in Manchester. “That’s why it’s wonderful to see Turing on the note, as a powerful symbol of the long overdue recognition he deserves.” Not only did Turing’s contributions to math and computer science aid the Allied war effort, they also laid the foundations for modern computers. In his 1936 paper titled “On Computable Numbers,” Turing invented the concept of algorithms, sets of instructions that dictate how computers operate, BBC reported. He was also one of the earliest computer scientists to begin thinking about AI. His ‘Turing test’ is still used to determine whether a machine is “intelligent” or not.Headbutting Tiny Worms Are Really, Really LoudThis rapid strike produces a loud ‘pop’ comparable to those made by snapping shrimps, one of the most intense biological sounds measured at sea.Your Recommended PlaylistVolume 0%Press shift question mark to access a list of keyboard shortcutsKeyboard Shortcutsplay/pauseincrease volumedecrease volumeseek forwardsseek backwardstoggle captionstoggle fullscreenmute/unmuteseek to %SPACE↑↓→←cfm0-9接下来播放Why Is It ‘Snowing’ Salt in the Dead Sea?01:53 facebook twitter 发邮件 reddit 链接https://www.livescience.com/65942-turing-finally-recognized-fifty-pound-note.html?jwsource=cl已复制直播00:0000:3500:35 “As the father of computer science and artificial intelligence, as well as a war hero, Alan Turing’s contributions were far ranging and path breaking,” Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, said in a statement. “Turing is a giant on whose shoulders so many now stand.” The new banknote won’t just feature Turing’s face. It will also include a ticker tape of binary code that spells out his birthday (June 23, 1912), a depiction of the machine he used to help break the German Enigma code, and his signature. Turing wasn’t the only scientist considered for this new note. In total, 989 scientists were nominated. The short list included Rosalind Franklin, Stephen Hawking and Adam Lovelace, among others.
